For many years, Oksana has had more impact on the sport of ice dancing than any other individual. Skating with her partner Evgeny, Oksana revolutionized ice dancing in the 90s with her innovative choreography, speed, amazing edges, and culminating with a series of gold medals. Staying undefeated from 1994 Olympics until 1998 Olympics, Oksana and her partner won 22 consecutive gold medals including Olympics, World, and a series of Grand Prix competition.
Oksana began skating when she was only 4 years old in Odessa under coach Walentina Kasianova.
At ten years of age, Oksana was invited to skate at Brejnev’s (the leader of the USSR) Jubilee, and was selected by him to continue skating at the Moscow – the Cultural, Political, and Sport Center of the USSR (Now Russia). She began to train at Sport Club Dynamo under coach Elena Alexandrowa. At age 12 Oksana changed her discipline from single to ice-dancing. Her coach was Natalia Linichuk, the Europe, World and Olympic Gold Medallists herself in ice-dance.
Oksana's first partner was Alexander Chichkov, together they became Silver and Gold World Junior Medallists. Due to health problems of Alexander Chichkov, Oksana changed partners in 1989 and began to skate with Evgeny Platov.
After a historical winning of a second Olympic Gold Medal in 1998, Oksana and Platov parted.
Since 1999, Oksana has been a solo-dancer.
